GST Special all-India drive from May 16 to July 15, 2023
GST department recently issued a circular on the issue of unscrupulous individuals misusing the
identity of other persons to obtain fake/bogus registrations under GST, with the intention to
defraud the government exchequer. Such fake/non-genuine registrations are being used to
fraudulently pass on input tax credits to unscrupulous recipients by issuing invoices without
any underlying supply of goods or services or both. This has become a serious problem, causing
revenue loss to the government.
In light of this, the GST department has launched a special all-India drive from May 16 to July
15, 2023, to detect and take necessary action against such suspicious/fake registrations.
In view of the above, it is advised as under:
· Fixed a board on registered premises including additional places depicting the
Name of the entity & GST Number.
· To the extent possible, a person should be in the business place to attend the official
at the time of visit.
· KYC documents of the person/entity should be available for verification.
· Wherever applicable, sales, purchase, and other details/documents should be
available for verification.
Please note that in the case where a GST officer visits the business premises and it is not found
by them, a GST department will issue a notice for cancellation of the registration.
